The tornado that has become known as "The Udall Tornado" actually began it's path of destruction in Oklahoma, and traveled through Sumner County before striking Udall.

On May 25, 1955, a tornado struck and caused heavy damage in Blackwell, Oklahoma. It is believed that that same tornado struck Udall. The storm entered Kansas in Sumner County just south of Ashton. It traveled northeast, missing Ashton and Geuda Springs. Northeast of Oxford, however, a home was destroyed killing five people.

The tornado continued on it's northeastern path and eventually struck Udall.
